Many Firsts
Our Minor PeeWee team has just completed its first exhibition game, first away game, and first home game.
Now we prepare for our first tournament at our own Winter Classic.

Exhibition Game vs Rosedale Senators - Win
After just one practice, one of the highlights was the crisp and creative offensive zone passing.  All the players were selfless and moved the puck well to open teammates.  The defense and back checking was enough to help Johnny Crowe earn our first shutout.  Way to go Johnny!

The successful offensive zone puck control resulted in the team out-shooting the Senators 22 to 5.  The relentless pressure finally paid off for Aidan Volpini-Martin’s assist to Sean Beattie for our first assist and first goal.

First Road Game vs Cambridge Hawks - Loss

Our first test against another minor PeeWee select team and we faced the Cambridge Hawks (2-2-0 at game time).  Cambridge’s speed and well-practiced plays, exposed some of the team’s defensive zone coverage weakness.  Once we got used to the speed of the Select game, we improved as the game wore on.

Positive highlights included periods 2 and 3 we held them to 1-0 15 minute periods.  We battled hard and everyone continued to forecheck and backcheck hard.  This resulted in our side out shooting the hawks.

First Home Game vs Waterloo Wolves – Loss

Welcome to our house!!  We hosted the Waterloo Wolves who were playing their 8th game (1-7 record).  A tough game for the goalies, Josh and Johnny, as we gave Waterloo too many 2nd,3rd, 4th rebound chances.  They did well handling the first shot, but team defense needed to be stronger.

There were examples of textbook team positional plays shown by the Express.  Some quick, tape-to-tape breakout passes resulting to moving the puck quickly through the NZ did create our Offensive Zone scoring chances.

Post-Game Keys to the Game

Players need to commit to their home skills development: daily multiple (50 minimum) shots, 3 X per week with the Bauer 30/30 challenge sport and age specific exercises.
