The one that got away
Once again the Flyers found themselves with a short bench with 2 players M.I.A as forward #55 James and defenceman #7 Taran were no shows for an important game against the Avalanche.

On 100th anniversary of the signing of the armistice indicating the end of the great war, World War 1. With the traditional moment of silence honoring those brave soldiers who sacrificed everything for our way of life out of the way another battle was about to commence. Obviously not as serious but important to these warriors nonetheless. The Flyers who have been struggling trying to find the back of the net as of late were slow out of the gate and let the Avalanche remain in the game, the first period was  pretty even as both teams managed 5 shots a piece but the Avalanche had better quality shots and our keeper #29 Captain Philip was the difference that kept the score tied. The second period was much more exciting as the feeling out process was over and both teams were taking more chances. The Flyers out shot the Avalanche 10-7 and opened the scoring early with #24 General Matt made a beautiful pinch and carried the puck deep behind enemy lines and made a sweet pass to an open #19 Major Pazzy who fired a onetimer passed their last line of defense to put the Flyers up 1-0. The Avalanche responded 2 minutes later when the Flyers were caught running around in their end after some failed clearing attempts resulted in the Avalanche getting some shots and finally putting one in on a rebound. The rest of the period was pretty much a stalemate as both battalions fought for ground but none was given as every insurgents was met with a strong resistance. #16  Sargent Matt was instrumental in keeping the enemy at bay as he was diving into the line of fire trying and succeeded in deflecting enemy fire from the point. That seemed to put some life back into the troops as we tried another wave of offense but just couldn't find an opening. #91 Platoon Leader Boden was flying all over the battlefield constantly mounting an offensive attack but just couldn't find target. #4 Minster of Defense Dylan tried everything he could offensively to crack the stalemate with no luck. Perhaps some of you were searching for #22 Private Rylan but he had asked to be on D and performed brilliantly. The third period did not start the way we had planned as as a couple of miscues early led to the Avalanche scoring a beautiful goal that #29 Captain Phil had no chance on and now the Flyers found themselves down 2-1 but with lots of time left. The third period completely belonged to the Flyers as we out shot them 14-5. The Flyers were gaining ground and the Avalanche had no answer as we pinned them deep in their own end firing shot after shot only to realize our ammo couldn't penetrate their armor. Our last chance at evening the score was a 3 on 1 when #34 Corporal Seba decided to take the shot unfortunately he missed the target. A questionable call late in the game hindered our chances but great penalty killing stopped the Avalanche from increasing the lead. With just under two minutes left in the game President Chad made the decision to pull the goalie and mount an all out attack, it was a great call as the Flyers were all over the Avalanche and you could almost see the white flag being raised but as always you must give credit where credit is due and the Avalanche defended their piece of the battlefield and we're the Victor's of the first battle.
