FAIR PLAY

Fair Play is a pillar for CMHL and at all levels of minor hockey. But what is Fair Play? Is it equal playing time or equal opportunity?

I am conflicted when Fair Play is absolutely measured by Equal Play. Our volunteer coaches are held responsible for ensuring the love of game for our players. They prepare their practice and game plans; set goals and support the players to strive for them; lead diverse players and families to become an effective team; and teach value life lessons that last beyond the rink. These responsibilities are nothing short of heroic.

I believe that all our coaches give each player the opportunity to receive equal instruction, support, and playing time. What part of the equation is up to the player?

Would you support a coach who rewards a player who demonstrates leadership with an extra shift? Would you support a coach who asks a player to miss a shift for not supporting the team?

COMMUNITY

With two weeks of house league play under our belts, this is the time of the season when new friendships are formed. There is a lot of energy around the rink and great ideas to be captured. This community is powered by volunteers; we have over 130 each year. But there is a continuous feeling that more can be done. Be part of the community by helping your coach; off-ice help as a certified trainer, team manager, photographer, event planner... If you have bigger ambitions to help the division or the league, get in contact with the convener, VP, or other executive members. You can continue making Chedoke a great choice for your house league experience.

Community is the core of our association. The twin-pad style helps facilitate that community by encouraging interaction with the other families and teams. The players and coaches strive to do their best and create that competitive spirit. The strength of the community supports that healthy and supportive competitiveness. Once our Chedoke families have spent a few seasons here, other players have switched from teammates to competitors and back to teammates again. This fosters that community environment and ability to cheer for all the teams; regardless of which team your son or daughter is on.
